Watashi, Idol Sengen is a Shōjo Webtoon expanding on the song and novella of the same name released in 2018. The story recounts the Idol Series character Mona Narumi's rise to stardom as mona and her tribulations as she faces rival idols.

Background[]

The manga was first announced by HoneyWorks on August 27, 2019[2] as part of the HoneyWorks Atelier project, a 10th anniversary celebration for HoneyWorks as a whole, and later confirmed by the digital manga and electronic reading service Piccoma and HoneyWorks on December 6 that same year. The manga began serialization on January 15, 2020, the same day the album Sukisugite Yabai. ~Kokuhaku Jikkou Iinkai Character Song Collection~, another project for the celebration, was to be officially released.
The first three chapters of the comic can be read for free in Japanese (with the former two not requiring an account for access) on Piccoma, and were released on December 26, 2019 as a preview.
On April 29, 2020, Piccoma made the first 12 chapters available for free reading until May 10. An extension was put in place beginning on May 13 of the same year, with up to Chapter 13 able to be read for free, until following the standard model of all but the three most recent chapters being free. (Piccoma later made all manga under its service region-locked to Japan, so further access for foreign readers cannot be done without a Japanese account or a VPN.)
From April 7 to May 7, 2022, the first 20 chapters were made free to read, and a raffle for 3 signed copies of the second volume for those who logged into the service via web browser was also held.[3]
The series went on hiatus after the release of Chapter 24. On April 24, 2021, the series was announced to resume later on April 28 of the same year, beginning with Chapter 25 [4], and went back on hiatus after the release of Chapter 39 on October 12. On February 2, 2022, the series resumed once again with the release of Chapter 40.
The manga completed serialization on September 28, 2022. However, Mogelatte commented that this end was the conclusion of "Part 1" of the story, teasing a sequel.[1]
In addition to the webcomic and published versions, the first three chapters of the manga are featured in a digital comic included with the Limited Edition releases of #Namae Dake demo Oboetette Kudasai.

Version Differences[]

While the serialized manga is published in webtoon format and full color, the published version is primarily grayscale and structured like a standard right-to-left manga. Thus, some page numbers will vary slightly in the Piccoma versus published editions.
