LIP×LIP (pronounced リップリップ, rippu rippu) is a virtual idol duo consisting of teen idols Yujiro and Aizo (voiced by Kouki Uchiyama and Nobunaga Shimazaki respectively). Beginning in 2016 with their debut song "Romeo", the duo has since gone on to provide music featured in the Confession Executive Committee franchise. In-universe, they first appeared as a unit in the background of the PV for "Nichiyoubi no Himitsu", and became prominent figures in the Idol Series.

The pair has also provided music for projects out-of-universe, such as "Nonfantasy" as the OP of Itsu Datte Bokura no Koi wa 10 Centi Datta., the single "Repaint" for the live-action series Aoharu Kokou 3-nen C-gumi, "Koi wo Shiyou" for the Koi Tsuru Hada Kyun advertising campaign, "Yume Fanfare" for the animated series Hashiritsuzukete Yokattatte, and "Yappa Saikyou!" for the 2019 Commercial Food High School Grand Prix.

Background[]

In universe, the duo was a result of Yujiro and Aizo passing an audition for a spot under the HoneyWorks label targeting young musical talent. They originally both entered the competition separately, but their performances were so above the rest that the judges decided to pair them up together.
Yujiro and Aizo had no experience with each other prior to the audition, but after a rough start they quickly came to work together. They consider each other rivals, but they also share a deep respect for each other, and they both consider the other the most important person to them.
They are managed by Mayu Uchida, and thanks to the results of a contest, have a junior manager in Hiyori Suzumi.

Trivia[]

  • The duo's working name was allegedly "Ai♡Yuu", a portmanteau of their given names Aizo and Yujiro, similar to ASCANA.
  • Yujiro and Aizo share the same birthday, February 22.
    • Their birthday falls on some important dates of other people/properties; February 22 is also Minami's birthday, the initial release date of Nando Datte, Suki. ~Kokuhaku Jikkou Iinkai~, and Cat Day in Japan.
    • The numbers on their promotional Twitter handle, LIP_LIP_222, reference their shared birthday. This is similar to mona's Twitter handle, which also uses her birth date.
  • When it comes to Vocaloid versions of their songs, Hatsune Miku is used for Yujiro's parts, while GUMI is used for Aizo's parts.
  • Initially, Yujiro and Aizo had a 2cm height difference (at 158 to 160 respectively)[1], but future interviews and information would update it to have Aizo be 5 centimeters taller at 166cm to Yujiro's 161cm[2]. Yappa Saikyou! acknowledges the gap by showing a picture of Aizo comparing their new heights during the photo montage.
  • Both characters like the opposite companion animal; Yujiro prefers dogs, while Aizo prefers cats.
  • According to an interview for Honeyworks by LisAni! that was published on December 1st of 2023, the song "Hitsuyo Fukaketsu" is a love song for Aizo and Yujiro to show off their relationship and tell the audience that the two of them are indispensable to each other.
  • Aizo and Yujiro were the ones who came up with their trademark kiss marks.[3]
